Renfield Promotional Dish
Renfield Promotional Dish
The history of Renfield Importers is what makes this glass trinket tray so cool.
According to Wikipedia, Joseph Renfield was a major bootlegger during the Prohibition era in the United States. He worked primarily with Newark mobsters and a notable henchman to illegally distribute alcohol, importing an estimated 40% of all alcohol consumed in the U.S. during Prohibition (insane, right). After Prohibition ended, Renfield owned several large liquor import and distribution companies including his own, Renfield Importers. This promotional tray is a token of that time, and is something his distribution company would have gifted to clients to incentivize them to purchase Renfield's liquors.
Estimated to be from the 1950's, this tray would make a very cool addition to an entry table as a key dish.
