I am admittedly obsessed with ball-edged glassware, and I couldn't avoid picking these up when sourcing. Ball-edged (also referred to as 'ball-rimmed' or 'beaded-edge') design has roots in early glassmaking traditions, with influences from Venetian glassmakers of the Renaissance period who were known for their delicate, yet intricate, decorative techniques, including applied glass beads. During the 19th century, pressed glass techniques made it possible to produce consistent and ornate designs affordably, resulting in the incorporation of ball-edged design in American and European glassmaking. By the mid-20th century, ball-edged glassware had become a staple in American homes, though it began to lose its appeal towards the century's end. Today, it is considered a vintage style and is highly sought after by collectors, with some contemporary glassmakers still creating pieces inspired by classic designs.
I'm selling two of these sets, individually, each with one bowl, one small plate, and one medium plate. They are not dinner plate size and are suggested to be used for snacks or tea!
