Framed Print of The Ruins of Walterspurg
According to research and similar findings, this steel-engraved print is assumed to depict the main tower of the Jörgenberg Castle, in eastern Switzerland.
Jörgenberg Castle was built in the 8th century as a fortified church on lands donated by Frankish kings, in the former municipality of Waltensburg/Vuorz. Over centuries, the church evolved into a medieval feudal castle, hosting many battles on its land. During the 17th century, it fell into disrepair and was left primarily abandoned until excavations in 1931. The site was revisited and further repairs were completed between 1998-2001, bringing the castle to its current condition. It remains a Swiss heritage site of national significance to this day.
This print is estimated to be from the mid-1800's and measures 11.75in. X 9.75in.
